The Secretary General of United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa), Mr. Jean Pierre Elong Mbassi, and the African Local Governments Academy (ALGA) Director, Mrs. Najat Zarrouk, conducted a mission to the United Nations in New York, from 24 to 28 April 2017, in the framework of Mrs. Zarrouk’ mission as a member of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Public Administration (UN-CEPA).
This committee is comprised of 24 members who meet annually at UN Headquarters in New York and this year’s 16th session had as main subject “Ensuring effective implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals: leadership, action and means.”
During these four days, UCLG Africa Secretary General and ALGA Director took part in the proceedings of the committee by contributing to the writing of the documents that will be adopted by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). They also discussed issues of Local Governance with the different personalities and stakeholders participating in the 16th session of the UN-CEPA.
The official document of the contribution of UCLG Africa Secretary General and ALGA Director was transmitted to the ECOSOC under the title “Understanding the needs of local authorities and communities and supporting and equipping them for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals” and isavailable below.
