Join UCLG Africa

All African local governments, subnational governments and cities with over 100,000 inhabitants and their respective national associations are all eligible for membership of UCLG Africa. In total we target 40 national associations from all regions of Africa and 2000 cities, which translates into the representation of over 350 million African citizens.
UCLG Africa’s membership constitutes three core target groups: –

Active Members

These active members can be broken down into sub-categories that include national government associations of regions, provinces, counties and departments of local government; major cities of Africa with populations equal or greater than 100,000; subnational governments representing the level of public governments between the national and local levels such as federated states, regions, provinces, counties, departments; and members of REFELA (locally elected women) who represent UCLG Africa’s standing committee on gender equality.

Associate Members

These are represented by the following sub-categories; nation states through the Ministries in charge of Decentralization, Local Government, Urban Planning or Housing; Civil Society organizations; organizations, foundations and companies of the private sector or any legal entity with an interest in local government.

Honorary Members

These are individuals that UCLG Africa determines to have rendered outstanding services to the development or growth of local governments in Africa.
