On behalf of the President and the members of the Executive Committee, I would like to wish all members and partners of UCLG Africa a Happy New Year, and prosperous 2017.” 

Let’s make 2017 the year 

• -of accomplishment for our organization
• -we see the African Charter on values and principles of decentralization, local governance, and local development come into force
• -we relaunch the process of setting up the High Council of local authorities as a consultative body of the African Union
• -we begin operations for the African Local Government Academy.

We have a lot of work to do moving forward, but together we can make 2017 an important milestone for the empowerment of local government and its contribution to the renewal of public good governance in Africa. With the participation of all UCLG Africa members and partner’s I am sure we will achieve all our goals.
