Participation of UCLG Africa Secretary General in 4th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue
The Secretary General, UCLG Africa, participated in the 4th World Forum on intercultural dialogue in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 4 to 6 May 2017, on the theme “Advancing Intercultural Dialogue: New Avenues for Human Security, Peace and Sustainable Development.”
The Forum was co-organized by the Republic of Azerbaijan, UNESCO, UN Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), UN World Tourism Organization (WTO), and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The forum gathered over 1500 guests from 123 countries, and 46 international organizations, with 200 speakers, in 40 different panels, which discussions will be aired through the UN television. This event was officially opened by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, His Excellency Mr. Ilham Aliyev and witnessed the participation of several personalities such as the Director General, UNESCO, Mrs. Irina Bokova; the High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, Mr. Nassir Al-Nasser, the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization, Mr. Taleb Rifai, and many more.
During the 4th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, 30 panels and side events were organized to discuss issues of intercultural dialogue in the current context of tensions, rise of xenophobia, racism, injustice and so on throughout the world.

On the fringes of the 4th Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, the Secretary General met with Mr. Louis d’Amore, President, International Institute for Peace through Tourism and paid a professional visit to the ASAN, the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations, to explore and discuss opportunities of further collaborations with both institutions.
