COP23: UCLG Africa partner of ART’s PLANET 2017 Initiative
In partnership with Energies 2050 and a number of other organizations, UCLG Africa is participating in the organization of ART’s PLANET 2017 edition.
ART’s PLANET is an international artistic and civic initiative that will be held this year as part of the 23rd Conference of the Parties (COP23 – Bonn, Germany from 6 to 17 November 2017) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The theme of ART’s PLANET 2017 is “Climate, Migration and Solidarity: the Art of Collectiveness”. The initiative aims to engage citizens and artists worldwide through an interactive art exhibition, to produce an advocacy report along with an art book and to support concrete projects to help climate migrants and vulnerable communities.
Why this project?
The project will offer citizens, and especially young people and the art community, an opportunity to freely express their selves and participate in their own way to the major challenges our societies are facing. ART’s PLANET 2017 aims to strengthen its impact by making a direct contribution to sustainability projects. An international auction of artworks by the artists will be organized at the end of COP23 to raise funds for climate actions.
How to participate?
Each participant will create an artistic performance around the theme of climate change and migration. All contributors are encouraged to use recycled materials and to make the project a collective and collaborative one. The objective will be to capture the performance with high quality photographs that will be exhibited during COP23 and to either:
- -Send the artwork to Bonn (for those who want to),
- -Display the artworks in a local exhibition (for those who decide not to send the artwork to Bonn).
Modalities of participation
Participation is free and can involve participants from cities, local authorities, neighborhoods, groups, NGOs, artists or communities of artists, and individuals. All participants will have the opportunity to have their performance included in a global action.
Supporting the project
The project can be supported by participating in its fundraising: See here for further details:
