A delegation of United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa), led by its President Khalifa Ababacar Sall, held a working meeting with the members of the committee of the Moroccan Association of Presidents of the Municipal Councils (AMPCC), on Monday 11 April, 2016 in Rabat.
The rest of the delegation included Mr. Hugues Ngouélondélé, Vice-President UCLG-Africa, Central Africa region and Deputy Mayor of Brazzaville, Ms. Célestine Ketcha Courtès, President of the Network of Locally Elected Women of Africa (Refela) and Mayor of Bangangté and Mr. Jean Pierre Elong Mbassi, Secretary General of UCLG Africa. They discussed during this meeting ways to learn from the lessons of the Africities Summit Johannesburg 2015 and they considered the work programme of UCLG Africa in the direction of the next edition in Congo-Brazzaville in 2018.
In this regard, Khalifa Sall will not miss to congratulate Morocco for its commitment at the Summit and will present its tributes to the King for his actions on the continent. “We want to say to his Majesty the King Mohammed VI, our appreciation and our gratitude for what he continues to do for the African governance. Today, UCLG Africa is in Morocco in excellent conditions, but especially Morocco is a pioneer country in decentralization. In organizing Africities, Morocco has experience and expertise that we have solicited so that the Brazzaville 2018 Africities Summit is a success”, he said to the media.
For his part, Fouad El Omari, President of the AMPCC, said that the meeting is “an opportunity to shed a light on the important role played by Morocco, through its local elected representatives, in the strengthening of the presence of the UCLG Africa on the African and international levels”.
In addition, for the next COP 22 in Morocco in November, Mr. Khalifa Sall noted the need to have a strong presence of African countries.
