Urban Thinkers Campus: Sustainable Urban Management: Empowerment of Local Governance and Citizen Participation

The World Urban Campaign (WUC) is an advocacy and partnership platform that raises awareness about positive urban change in order to achieve green, productive, safe, healthy, inclusive, and well-planned cities.

Coordinated by UN-Habitat and driven by a large number of committed partners – currently 180 partners and networks – from around the world, the WUC regularly organizes meetings called “Urban Thinkers Campuses” (UTC) throughout the world prioritizing the Urban Agenda at the highest level in development policies and bringing all stakeholders around the negotiation table.

In this framework, United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa) and its African Local Governments Academy (ALGA), the Africa Union of Architects (AUA) and the National Council of Architects of Morocco are joining efforts to hold the Urban Thinkers Campus: Sustainable Urban Management: Empowerment of local governance and citizen participation, in Al Jadida City at Mazagan Beach and Golf Resort, (Al Jadida, Morocco) from 29th June to 1st July 2017.

The aim of this campus is to share participatory approaches and strategies for increased participation in decision-making and collaborative planning in cities. Participants will focus on modes of collaborative action within the community and look for ways to develop a community oriented planning process. Urban Practitioners from different fields will be able to exchange experiences and transfer urban knowledge and social intelligence from one city to another.
