26th SESSION OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF UCLG AFRICA

 

On 13 December 2021, the Executive Committee and the Pan-African Council of United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa) will meet in ordinary sessions by videoconference.

The 26th session of the Executive Committee will be held at 9:30 a.m. and will focus on the adoption of the budget and the 2022 work plan of UCLG Africa. The members of the Committee will examine the state of progress of the preparations for the 9th edition of the Africities Summit, scheduled from 17 to 21 May 2022 in Kisumu, Kenya, within the framework of which will be held on 20 May 2022, the elective general assembly that will allow the election of the titular and substitute members of the governing bodies of UCLG Africa.

The Pan-African Council will gather at 2:30 pm. The members of the Pan-African Council will decide on the work plan and the 2022 budget of UCLG Africa as well as on the preparation of the Africities 9 Summit. The Pan-African Council will also receive an update on the participation of associations of local and regional governments from Africa in the new cooperation cycle of the European Union (2021-2027).

Mrs. Christine Mba Ndutume Mihindou, President of UCLG Africa and Mayor of Libreville, Gabon, will chair both meetings. In the presence of among others:

  • Mr. Mohamed Boudra, Vice-President of UCLG Africa for the North Africa region
  • Mrs. Soham El Wardini, Vice-President of UCLG Africa for the West Africa region
  • Mr. Uwimana Innocent, Vice President of UCLG Africa for the East Africa region
  • Mr. Jeffrey Sibisibi, Vice President of UCLG Africa for Southern Africa
  • Mme. Macoura Dao Coulibaly, President of the Network of Local Elected Women of Africa (REFELA)
  • M. Jean Pierre Elong Mbassi, General Secretary of UCLG Africa

As a reminder, the Executive Committee of UCLG Africa is the body in charge of the political direction of the organization. The Executive Committee is composed of 16 members, 15 members equally representing each of the 5 regions of the continent (3 for each of the 5 regions), to which is added the President of the Network of Locally Elected Women of Africa (REFELA – UCLG Africa’s gender committee).

The Pan-African Council of UCLG Africa is the body in charge of the annual supervision of the conduct of UCLG Africa between the meetings of the General Assembly, which take place every three (3) years in the framework of the Africities Summits. It is composed of forty-five (45) active members, nine (9) from each African sub-region.
