The 5th Congress of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and the World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders will take place on 12‑15 October 2016 in Bogotá, Colombia. The meeting, which will see UCLG, the world Organization of Local governments, renew its governing bodies and elect a new President at the General Assembly of 14 October 2016.

United Cities and Local Governments reminds its members that the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments for Habitat III will hold its third session in Quito on 16 October, immediately after the 5th UCLG World Congress and the World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders (12-15 October 2016, Bogotá, Colombia).
A reduced group of representatives will attend the Quito Assembly to present the constituency’s recommendations to the Habitat III process.
The members, who will register for the Second World Assembly, will also be registered for the Habitat III Conference.

It must be completed and returned to the UCLG World Secretariat writing to globaltaskforce@uclg.org by 21 September 2016.
The Habitat III Conference is expected to gather over 15.000 participants. UN accreditation is required to attend. UCLG is able to register members.

United Cities and Local Governments, UCLG, the world organization of local and regional governments is holding the second edition of its annual retreat and campus in Barcelona, the home of UCLG World Secretariat.
From 15 to 19 February, representatives of UCLG Sections and committees are discussing the future of the organization and brainstorming ideas for the UCLG Congress in Bogota. The purpose of gathering all the members of the network is to harness its power and continue the work based on collaboration and achievements over the past years, as well as increasing the visibility and impact of their work at all levels.
UCLG Africa is also attending the annual retreat and campus and is represented by its Secretary General, M. Jean Pierre Elong Mbassi. UCLG Africa is the African section of the network and is considered as one of the most active sections in the world.
Here, our Secretary General is speaking to UCLG about the curial importance of the year of 2016, as it is a year where local and regional governments are expected to act on several levels.
