CALL FOR APPLICATIONS – Translator and Interpreter (Individual Long-Term Consultant)

1 Background

Africa Adaptation Initiative (AAI) aims to strengthen collaboration on adaptation across the continent through high-level pan-African and regional dialogues, adaptation action on the ground, and addressing the adaptation financing gap. It is designed as the initiative for Africa driven by Africa. Open Society Foundation (OSF) is supporting AAI to work on educating the public in selected African countries about climate adaptation actions to reduce climate vulnerability. AAI provides expertise to ensure a smooth implementation of the objective of OSF grant.

Within this context, AAI is seeking to engage an individual consultant for provision of professional translation and interpretation services on an as-needed basis.

2 Objective of the assignment

This short-term contract provides for the necessary English/French translation and interpreting services.

3 Activities & Deliverables

The duties and responsibilities of the Contractor are set out below:

3.1 Translation Services (English to French, French to English)

– Produce 100% accurate translation of various documents, speeches, talking points, presentations, brochures, fact sheets, reports, website content, press releases, etc. for the AAI events (workshops, trainings, conferences, etc.) and meetings (technical working groups meetings, meetings between international adaptation experts and local counterparts, etc).;

– Use the appropriate terminology considering the style and nuances of the original text. Areas frequently covered by such documents include cultural heritage, art, history, conservation/restoration, educational material, peace and confidence building, architectural texts, technical texts, environment, legal, PR and Business texts, etc.;

– Quality check and proofreading of translation ensuring no typographical errors in the final text;

– Ensure timely delivery of translated materials; and

– Deliver the translated documents as requested by AAI.

3.2 Consecutive Interpretation Services (English to French, French to English)

– Provide consecutive interpretation during AAI events (workshops, trainings, conferences, etc.) and meetings (technical working groups meetings, meetings between international adaptation experts and local counterparts, etc).

3.3 Simultaneous Interpretation Services ((English to French, French to English)

– Provide simultaneous interpretation during during AAI events (workshops, trainings, conferences, etc.) and meetings (technical working groups meetings, meetings between international adaptation experts and local counterparts, etc);

– Review and edit texts written in English and French;

– Assure texts are technically, linguistically and grammatically correct and consistent in terms of completion and terminology usage;

– Assure that texts meet high quality standards, are error free and will not need further editing after completion of translation; and

4 Duration period

The assignment will last for two months starting on 1st August 2023.

5 Budget

The total budget for this work is USD 10 000

The Contractor will be paid

· USD 5 000 at the end of the first month; and

· USD 5 000 at the end of the second month.

The total Translation and Interpretation will amount to USD 10 000
