Third study trip to Morocco from students of Florida International University (USA)

The African Local Government Academy (ALGA) of United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa) and Florida International University (FIU) in the United States organize from 26 February to 02 March 2018, the third study visit to the Kingdom of Morocco for PhD and Master’s students of this university.

As it was the case in 2017, this study tour has been arranged in partnership with the National Higher School of Administration (ENSA) and the University of Al Akhawayn (AUI) with backing from the Moroccan authorities, (Ministry of the Interior, Ministry delegate to the head of the government in charge of the reform of the Administration and the public service, Wassit Al Mamlaka, the Moroccan Association of the presidents of Municipal Councils (AMPCC), the Province of Ifrane, the municipal council of Ifrane, the region of Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima), around the theme: ‘Contemporary issues of public administration at regional and local levels’.

In positioning as an organisation that is opened to collaboration on the continent and the world, UCLG Africa through ALGA, aims to perpetuate this activity to make known to the students of FIU the key issues and challenges of Public Administration, both in Morocco Africa, as well as to fundamental reforms and good practice implemented to deal with them at a national, regional and local level.

During this six-day of exchange of experience, students will immerse themselves in the cities of Rabat, Ifrane and Tangier in the context of sessions led by senior officials, university professors, Experts and practitioners.

One of the highlights of this trip will be the hearing which will be granted on Monday, 26 February 2018 (10 am), by the minister delegate to the head of the government in charge of the reform of the Administration and the public service, His Excellency Mr. Mohammed BENABDELKADER.

The students will then join the head quarter of UCLG Africa for an exchange with the Secretary General of the Organization, Mr. Jean Pierre Elong Mbassi. This will be an opportunity to present the actions of UCLG Africa and the preparations for the next Africities8 Summit scheduled to be held in Marrakech from 4 to 8 December 2018.

This first day will be concluded by three exchange sessions at the ENSA from 2.30 pm. The main issue will be the role and mission of the ENSA in promoting Leadership in public Administration, the Constitution and the institutional and administrative organization of Morocco.

The study tour will also be punctuated by visits to institutions in Rabat, Ifrane and Tangier, especially in relation to structuring projects, such as the Port Tanger Med and the free Zone of Tangier, in additjojo@voila.frof discovery of teritage and Culture of Morocco.
