Regional Strategic Meetings
Starting from the 9th April, UCLG Africa will host the first of its series of Regional Strategic Meetings taking place across the five regions of Africa. Keeping in touch with our members is a key priority for UCLG Africa as the representative voice of local Africa. The Regional Strategic Meetings have two major goals:
(1) To inform UCLG-Africa on the state of decentralization in the respective regions and the urgencies to be addressed on the decentralization agenda, and;
(2) To deliberate on the priority actions required to: Support local governments to become the best partners for national governments; the regional economic communities; other development partners and stakeholders. These timely regional meetings will be held following the African Union’s Specialized Technical Committee no: 8 on Public Service, Local Government, Urban Development and Decentralization hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco with the support of UCLG Africa.
At the regional meetings we will pose important questions about the state of decentralization particularly issues around The African Charter on the Values and Principles of Decentralization, Local Governance and Local Development; and The High Council of Local Authorities which was established to support the territorial development process.
In addition, our Membership and Relationships Team prioritizes member engagement to define our future together and need to understand the priorities and challenges faced by our members in delivering their mandates. As such, it is very important for National Associations and Sub-National Governments to complete Membership Declarations for each country and the Data Survey. (Click here for National Associations and here for Sub-National Governments.) .
In 2017, our members highlighted real challenges around visibility. With the launch of UCLG Africa’s new web portal www.uclga.org we saw an opportunity to support our members even further with innovative marketing and communications packages. As fully paid members of UCLG Africa you will be entitled to as much as 50% off marketing and branding packages that start at €2,500.
Later this year we will also have our flagship event, Africities8, in Marrakech, Morocco. We want our National Associations to engage and mobilize regions, local governments and other key stakeholders, including locally elected women through REFELA, civil society and the private sector. What better way to start than by working on your National Associations branding and communications tools to mobilize and increase your visibility?
