REFELA President appointed « Global Champion » at the World Disaster Risk Reduction Conference

On March 15, 2015, the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, paid tribute to a group of officials striving to reduce risks of natural disasters.

Among these champions, Mrs. Fatimetou Abdel Malick, President of the Network of Locally Elected Women of Africa (REFELA) and Mayor of Tevragh-Zeina in Mauritania represented Africa and the REFELA.

This meeting took place in the framework of the World Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction happening now in Sendai in Japan and focusing on the vital question of reducing and preventing risks related to natural disasters, which destroy millions of lives annually across the world.

Therefore, the UN Secretary General insisted on the important job done by these officials given their personal and professional capacity.
