Adrien Nguema Mba: Special Delegate in charge of managing the municipality of Libreville
Appointed head of Libreville City Council on 1 May 2025, Adrien Nguema Mba is working on several fronts to modernise the capital of Gabon.
Since taking office, the special delegate has held numerous meetings with municipal officials. “What I want for you, as I have said to many confederations, is for trade unionism to be patriotic trade unionism. And I would like to see this approach, as recommended by the President of the Republic, Head of State and Head of Government, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, become a dynamic force that contributes not only to stability in the world of work, but also to its prosperity,” he said on 22 May 2025.
Aware of the tensions that have marked relations between the council and trade unions in the past, Adrien Nguema Mba is focusing on an inclusive approach. His goal is to ensure transparent and effective management, while promoting the skills of municipal employees.
August saw an intensification of efforts to modernise the Gabonese capital.
On Monday 25 August 2025, the Special Delegate of the Municipality of Libreville, accompanied by his agents, carried out an important mission to identify and inspect urban infrastructure. ‘The mission began in the 5th arrondissement at the IAI interchange and then continued in the Lalala neighbourhood. The inspection of the STFO site revealed encouraging results with the dismantling of several illegal garages, in accordance with the directives given,’ reads the town hall’s Facebook page.
The SOGATRA base, a key project for the revival of urban public transport, is showing encouraging momentum. The mission concluded in the 1st Arrondissement at Charbonnage with a fruitful meeting with non-governmental organisations in the transport sector. This participatory exchange session provided an opportunity to gather complaints and suggestions from stakeholders in the field, thereby strengthening collaboration between local authorities and civil society to ensure the sustainability of the reforms undertaken.
On 22 August 2025, the city council launched a major operation to demarcate municipal markets. The operation aims to objectively determine market spaces, demolish unauthorised structures and ensure compliance with closing times in all municipal markets. These measures are part of a drive to organise, modernise and secure the capital’s market areas.
It should be noted that the new special delegate, Adrien Nguema Mba, previously held the position of 3rd Deputy Mayor and Secretary General of the Libreville City Council.
