Visit to the Headquarters of UCLG Africa of a delegation from the Commune des Lacs1 of Togo
On June 17, 2022, the ALGA Academy of UCLG Africa organized and facilitated the visit to the Headquarters of UCLG Africa of a delegation from the Commune of Lacs1 from Togo, made up of the Honorable Mr. Alexis Coffi AQUEREBURU, Mayor of the Municipality of Lakes 1, Mrs. Lawson-Helu Nadou Délali, Head of the Cooperation Service of said Commune, and H.E. Mr. Messan Amakoe Klutse, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Togolese Republic in the Kingdom of Morocco. This was a courtesy visit that the Honorable Aquereburu paid to the Secretary General of UCLG Africa, Mr. Jean Pierre Elong Mbassi, during his stay in Morocco to attend the Festival of Sacred Music of the World which was held in the city Fez from June 09 to June 17, 2022.
This delegation was received by Dr. Najat Zarrouk, Director of Development, Capacity Building, Knowledge Management and of the ALGA Academy of UCLG Africa, Ms. Jacqueline Mustache Belle, Director of the Network of Locally Elected Women of Africa (REFELA ) from UCLG Africa, Mr. Gautier Brygo, Director of the Communication Department, and Mr. Thierry Sanzhie Bokally, Head of the Knowledge Management Unit.
Dr. Zarrouk, on behalf of Mr. Jean Pierre Elong Mbassi, Secretary General of UCLG Africa and his colleagues present, welcomed the delegation to Morocco and more specifically to the premises of UCLG Africa and said that she was honored by the presence of His Excellency the Chargé d’ Affaires of the Togolese embassy in Rabat.
For the Honorable Alexis Coffi Aquereburu, this courtesy visit aims to get to know better the organization of African local governments, i.e. UCLG Africa, through its various departments and programs. The mayor took the opportunity to present the Municipality of Lakes 1 (Aného), a historic, tropical and seaside town located 104 km from the capital city Lomé on the Atlantic Coast. A city that hosts several cultural events including: the taking of the “Sacred Stone” which announces what will be the destiny of the Guin people, and which hosts the 359th edition of the Festival of Black Divinities and the International Festival of History of Aneho..This city was twice the capital of Togo of 1887 to 1897 under German colonization and from 1914 to 1920 under French tutelage.
Mr. Thierry Sanzhie Bokally, Head of the Knowledge Management Unit, made presentations, one on UCLG Africa in terms of its vision, objectives, structure, governing bodies, and finally on the various projects on which UCLG Africa is committed to contributing to the unity of the African continent through the dynamism of local governments; and the other on the event of “Rabat, African Capital of Culture”, an initiative of UCLG Africa which takes place from June 2022 to May 2023.
Mr. Gautier Brygo, Mrs. Jacqueline Mustache Belle, and Dr. Najat Zarrouk presented their respective departments to the honorable guests.
