REFELA President Lord Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe to receive African Woman of the Year 2024 Award
A Pan-African magazine, The Voice News Magazine, and organizers of the Voice Achievers Award based in the Netherlands have bestowed on the Honorable Rohey Malick Lowe, the Mayor of the Gambian capital, Banjul, and President of the Network of Local Elected Women of Africa (REFELA), the title of “African Woman of the Year 2024,” according to a press release issued by the organizers.
“Mayor Lowe epitomizes hard work, commitment, dedication, intelligence, and servant leadership,” as evidenced by the massive impact recorded in the development of Banjul, a shining example of revolutionizing good governance that is accountable to the people.
As such, the seasoned politician will be awarded for her continued effort in supporting the government of The Gambia to deliver world-class services for the betterment of her fellow citizens in Banjul and in The Gambia, with unwavering allegiance and dedication.
In response, Lord Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe said she is most humbled by the recognition and dedicates the award to the good people of Banjul and The Gambia, because they are the reason she works hard, and they, in turn, appreciate her contribution to making The Gambia one of the league of progressive countries in Africa.
The organizers explained that they selected and nominated Mayor Lowe because, among other reasons, she is the serving Mayor of Banjul, the capital city of The Gambia; the President of the Local Elected Women in Africa (REFELA); the Vice President of the Global Parliament of Mayors (GPM); the Second Vice President of the United Democratic Party (UDP) in The Gambia; a board member of the Francis Edward Referral Hospital; and the Chairperson of the Banjul Youth Diplomats. As such, “this award will further highlight the growing recognition, influence, and importance of The Gambia, not only to the region but the world at large,” they affirmed.
Lord Mayor Lowe has accepted her nomination for The Voice Achievers Award as “African Woman of the Year 2024.” She will be honored with the most prestigious African Award in Central Europe at a ceremony slated for 16th August 2024 at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.
This award shows the appreciation of Mrs. Rohey Malick Lowe’s “continued passion for women and youth empowerment, promotion of a sustainable health care delivery system, infrastructural development, skill acquisition for the citizens of Banjul, particularly for women, children, and the less privileged, as well as advancing the good cause of her people and the African continent at large.”
