REFELA-Cam and UN Women sign partnership agreement

On June 27, 2024, a significant milestone was reached in the promotion of gender equality and women’s empowerment in Cameroon with the signing of the partnership agreement between UN Women and the Cameroon chapter of the Network of Locally Elected Women in Africa (REFELA-Cam). The ceremony took place at the UN Women headquarters in Yaoundé.

REFELA-Cam was represented by its President, Mrs MEYANGA épse NOAH NGAH Marie Angèle, accompanied by several members of staff, while UN Women was represented by Mrs MENGUE Valérie, acting in place of the Country Representative, who was unable to attend.

The signing marks the culmination of a long process of collaboration and negotiation between the two entities, both committed to the fight for gender equality and women’s empowerment. The partnership agreement aims to formalize and strengthen this collaboration, paving the way for new joint initiatives.

The signing of this agreement also comes as a prelude to the organization of a capacity-building workshop entitled “Objectif 120 communes au féminin en 2025” (Objective 120 gender inclusive cities in 2025), which aims to empower female leaders with a view to the upcoming 2025 elections in Cameroon. This strategic partnership is therefore essential to support efforts to increase women’s participation in political and public life in Cameroon.

This agreement is a major step forward for both organizations and, more broadly, for the cause of women in Cameroon. It augurs a brighter future for the cause of women in Cameroon, and the fruits of this strengthened collaboration for a more equitable and inclusive future are eagerly awaited.
