PSI Africa and UCLG Africa Meeting: Launch in Casablanca of a Pilot Cooperation Program on the promotion of Quality Local Public Services and Decent Work in African Local and Regional Governments
From Tuesday 9 to Thursday 11 May 2023, Public Services International (PSI), which brings together more than 20 million workers in 163 countries and territories, and United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa), the pan-African Organization that represents nearly 320 million Africans through 54 National and Regional Associations of local and regional governments in Africa, as well as 2000 cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants, will hold a joint meeting to strengthen their cooperation and dialogue on quality local public services and decent work in African local and regional governments.
The main objective of this meeting is to identify common priorities and synergies to ensure that all citizens have equal access to quality local public services, to make cities, communities and territories inclusive and equitable, to achieve a sustainable and equitable local socio-economic environment, and to strengthen the capacities and skills of the personnel of the Local and Regional Governments while guaranteeing decent working conditions.
The meeting will take place at Hotel Farah, 160 Avenue des FAR, Casablanca, on May 9th, 2023 from 9:00 am, will bring together members and staff of the two organizations, as well as representatives of African Local and Regional Governments, in particular the City of Temeke in Tanzania, the City of N’Djamena in Chad, the City of Casablanca in Morocco, the City of Mazabuka in Zambia and the City of Abuja in Nigeria, as well as the Association of Municipalities of Eswatini (ex-Swaziland). The meeting will be an opportunity to present the context, objectives and content of the Pilot Program that will be carried out in partnership with PSI and UCLG Africa.
The Program also offers field visits to structuring projects in the City of Casablanca, related to solid waste management and sanitation.
The opening session of these meetings will feature speeches from the following personalities:

- Mr. Vice-Presidents, Adeyemi Peters & Rita Thandeka;
- Mr. Sani Baba Mohammed, PSI Regional Secretary for Africa and the Arab World;
- Mr. Miloudi Moukharik, Secretary General of the UMT;
- Mr. Jean Pierre Elon Mbassi, Secretary General of UCLG Africa.
