Awareness-raising workshop on living together for the youth in Tangiers
On August 9, 2024, UCLG Africa held an awareness-raising workshop on living together for the youth of Tangiers, at the Essadaka Social Complex in the Bendibane district.
The workshop is part of the “Multiculturalism at the service of social cohesion in the territories” project, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the City of Tangiers and the Regional Coordination of National Mutual Aid, with the support of the United Nations Multi-Partner Migration Trust Fund (MPTF). Its aim is to promote intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding among young Moroccans and migrants in Tangiers.
Twenty-three (23) Moroccan and sub-Saharan children benefited from the activities of this workshop, led by Mr. Lionel Nzamba and Ms. Fatima Razouki, both from UCLG Africa’s Gender and Youth Department. Thus, “the children who benefited from this workshop were encouraged to explore their geographical and cultural knowledge of Africa, so that they could discover, respect and appreciate differences, while learning to recognize the similarities, complementarities and cultural links between Morocco and its continent,” testified Mr. Nzamba.
The day was punctuated by various exercises and interactive games, according to rules set up and co-constructed by the children to ensure the smooth running of the workshop. This activity, marked by the strong involvement of the young group, helped to instill in them the values of tolerance and living together.
The awareness-raising workshops will continue during the 2024 school year for schoolchildren from various establishments in Tangiers.
