African regional workshop to review and update Standards of Excellence in Public Administration Education and Training 

The Division of Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG) and the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA) jointly organized on September 13, 2023, a workshop for public administration education and training schools and institutes in Africa. Dr. Najat Zarrouk represented UCLG Africa at this meeting, the aim of which was to gather ideas, suggestions and comments on the process of revising and/or updating the standards of excellence for public administration education and training. 

The online meeting brought together 46 participants, including all the members of the Africa region working group, as well as directors, educators and trainers from several African schools and institutes of public administration. During the workshop, each of the criteria of excellence was discussed in depth by the participants, and proposals for revision or updating were put forward. Rich exchanges took place on ways to ensure the integration of the SDGs and the principles of effective governance into the standards of excellence and to support the transformation of the public sector to implement the 2030 Agenda. This first workshop will be followed by a series of regional workshops to be organized by DPIDG and IASIA in all regions of the world for participatory and inclusive standards review and update process.
