Africa Transition Forum (ATF 2024)

The first edition of the Africa Transition Forum (ATF 2024) was held on 17 and 18 October 2024 in Marrakech, at the Mohammed VI Museum of Water Civilisation in Morocco. Organised by the International Institute for Sustainable Transition in Africa under the theme ‘ Supporting transitions in Africa: the era of sustainable and innovative actions ’, the forum brought together national and international researchers and experts, government representatives, local and regional players and strategic partners from civil society.

Speaking at the event, the founding president of the International Institute for Sustainable Transition in Africa, Fatima Arib, stressed that ‘sustainable transition in Africa is not a distant goal, but a reality that we can build together, by transforming today’s challenges into sustainable solutions adapted to African contexts’. She went on to point out that ‘the African continent, with its natural resources, know-how, vitality and potential for innovation, is in a position to make a successful transition to sustainability’.

For his part, the Secretary General of UCLG Africa, Jean Pierre Elong Mbassi, felt that all development in Africa must take place in the territories, which must be the place where transitions are implemented, noting that the transition towards justice and human dignity must be a priority for the continent. In this context, Mr Elong Mbassi pointed out that the success of transition in Africa depends on a partnership between the different levels of governance and the various players involved.
