Advocacy for the identification of children without legal identity in Africa
On August 23, 2022, Mr. André Franck AHOYO, General Delegate of the Urgency Identity Africa Fund (UIAfrica), was received in audience by Her Excellency Mrs. Mariam CHABI TALATA, Vice-President of the Republic of Benin.
This courtesy visit is part of the advocacy and awareness-raising mission that UIAfrica regularly carries out in favor of birth registration (SDG 16.9) whenever the opportunity is offered to exchange with high-level political leaders in Africa and elsewhere.
UIAfrica, which signed a partnership agreement last May with United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa) and the REFELA network, wishes to work towards a better understanding of the issues related to the identification of people in Africa, particularly children without legal identity and, by extension, children living on the streets.
Also, the various stakeholders (State, local authorities) in the maintenance of a reliable, secure and universal civil status in Africa must make every effort to ensure that everyone has a legal identity in order to consolidate the rule of law, promote the enjoyment of fundamental human rights and the social inclusion of populations.
