MIPIM 2018 Africa Forum
For its 30th edition, MIPIM is launching the Young Leaders Summit, innovatively staged as a major intergenerational debate on the future of cities and skills development. Through this event, focused entirely on upcoming generations, MIPIM plans to overview the next 30 years from the perspective of sustainable growth.

OECD Roundtable on Cities and Regions for the SDGs
The 1st OECD Roundtable on Cities and Regions for the SDGs will be organised at the OECD Headquarters in Paris on 7 March 2019, within the scope of the OECD programme on A Territorial Approach to the SDGs. The Roundtable will bring together cities, regions, national governments, international organisations, private sector and other key stakeholders to identify trends and challenges in the localisation of the SDGs, including the experiences and key findings from the pilots of the programme.
Africa Climate Week 2019
Africa Climate Week (ACW) 2019 will convene in the lead-up to the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Summit in September 2019, bringing together diverse actors from the public and private sectors. Participants will focus on how engagement between Parties and non-Party stakeholders can be further strengthened in key sectors for Africa, including energy, agriculture and human settlements. The event will also showcase the role of future carbon markets to enhance climate action towards the goal of sustainable development, and seek to facilitate implementation of countries’ nationally determined contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement on climate change and SDG 13 (climate action), among other Goals.
Africities 8 Summit
Africities is the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa’s flagship pan-African event that is held every three years in one of the five regions of Africa. We mobilize communities and local authorities in African countries, as well as financial institutions, civil society groups and development partners at continental and international level.
CREATING A VISION FOR THE AFRICA THAT WE WANT TO SEE
The architecture of all Africities Summits aims to address major questions based on the construction of the 2063 Vision of Africa with debate proposed by the African Union Commission.
Under the High Patronage of His Majesty the King Mohammed VI of Morocco, the Africities 8 Summit will be hosted in Marrakesh, on 20 -24 November 2018, with over 5000 participants. The latter will represent all the stakeholders of African local life as well as their partners from other regions of the world: ministers in charge of local governments; ministers in charge of housing and urban development; ministers of public service; local authorities and local elected officials; officials of local and central administrations; civil society organizations, associations and trade unions; economic operators of the public and private sectors as well as of the social/ solidarity economy; traditional rulers; researchers and academics; and international cooperation agencies.
This year’s Africities Summit theme is The Transition to Sustainable Cities and Territories, the Role of Local and Subnational Governments of Africa.
The Africities 8 Exhibition will host between 400 – 500 exhibitors.
The Africities Summit pursues two major objectives:
- Defining appropriate shared strategies in order to improve the living conditions of people at the local level
- Contribute to the integration, peace, and unity of Africa starting from the grassroots.

UCLG World Council
The World Council is the main policy-making body of the World Organization. It decides the World Organization’s policies and ensures that general policies decided by the General Assembly are implemented. The World Council will take place from 5 to 8 November in Madrid, back-to-back with the second edition of the World Forum on Urban Violence and Education for Coexistence and Peace, at the kind invitation of Mayor Manuela Carmena.
