REFELA Board Meeting in Lagos

On November 6, 2023, the Executive Board of the Network of Locally Elected Women in Africa (REFELA) met in Lagos, Nigeria. The work of the network, which constitutes UCLG Africa’s Standing Committee on Gender Equality, was chaired by Mrs. Roheyatou Malick Lowe, President of REFELA and Mayor of Banjul (Gambia). The meeting, which took place in a hybrid format, was attended by Mrs MEYANGA Marie Angèle Epse. NOAH, REFELA Vice-President for Central Africa, Mayor of Afanloum Commune (Cameroon), Mrs Léontine Yangba Bonna, President of REFELA-CAR, Deputy Mayor of Bangui, and Mrs Omolola Essien, President of REFELA-Nigeria and Executive Chairwoman of Lagos Mainland Local Government. The following took part in the exchanges online: Mrs Maria Helena Jose Correia LANGA, Vice-President of REFELA for Southern Africa, Mayor of Mandlakazi (Mozambique), Mrs Fatna EL KHIEL, Vice-President of REFELA for North Africa, President of the Commune of Arbaoua (Morocco), Mrs Milka Moraa Ngare, President of REFELA-Kenya, President of the Women’s Caucus of the COG, Mrs Nadia Abusrewil, President of REFELA-Libya, Mayor of the Commune of Janzour, Mrs Aminetou Mint Mohamed, President of REFELA-Mauritania and Mrs Kgomotso Seduke, President of REFELA-Botswana, Municipal Councillor of Lobaste. The Board approved the report of REFELA’s 2022 General Assembly held during the Africities 9 Summit in Kisumu (Kenya). The REFELA activity report for the period June 2022 to September 2023 was also adopted by the Board.
