Mrs. NOAH nee MEYANGA Marie Angèle: A month of September on several fronts

The vice-president of the Network of Local Elected Women of Africa (REFELA) for the Central Africa region carried out a series of advocacy actions during the month of September 2023. On September 14, Mrs. Noah nee Meyanga Marie Angèle, who is also mayor of the Afanloum commune (Cameroon), launched a financial cooperative created by rural women to empower women in her commune.

She also received a delegation of African American mayors within the framework of decentralized cooperation and facilitated an audience for the delegation with Cameroon’s Minister of External Relations, HE Lejeune Mbella Mbella. The delegation of African American mayors visited Yaoundé on September 15, at the invitation of the Network’s Cameroonian chapter REFELACAM. Mrs. Meyanga Angele epse Noah, President of REFELACAM and Mayor of the commune of Afanloum, accompanied her hosts during the exchanges, which aimed to consolidate relations between Cameroon and the United States.

The mayor has also been on the front line of the #JustSanitation4AfricanCities campaign. This campaign advocates the establishment of equitable sanitation systems in African cities. Alongside her REFELA colleagues, Ms. Noah took part in the regional meeting of the research project “OVERDUE: Facing the Sanitation Taboo in Urban Africa”. The meeting was held in Nairobi from September 11 to 12, 2023.

To say that September was a particularly busy month for the local leader would be an understatement. Even more so as she was involved in another aspect of decentralized cooperation, leading the Cameroonian delegation to the “Russia-China” international forum in Kazan (Russia) from September 07 to 08.
