Continental Dialogues

Continental Dialogues promoting the benefits and celebrating the achievements of decentralization are an important aspect of our work in West Africa. One of our main aims includes establishing the High Council of Local Authorities (HCLA) as a consultative arm of the African Union.

In addition to this, the West Africa Regional Office (WARO) also plays host to the Covenant of Mayors Office for Sub-Saharan Africa along with the help-desk officer and has set up a Climate Change Hub.

The regional office represents UCLG Africa in the consortium partnership that implements the Covenant of Mayors for Sub-Saharan Africa (CoMSSA) project, which is an initiative to support Sub-Saharan African cities in the fight against climate change and the promotion of sustainable energy. In the CoMSSA initiative, WARO leads some of these activities such as advocacy, vertical integration, networking and decentralized cooperation. CoMSSA is part of the Global Covenant of Mayors, the largest coalition that brings together cities and local governments on climate and energy issues.
